I just DL'd the FLACS for both shows and finished streaming 8/6/71. This board is perfect! It is commercial release quality. Part of this show was included on the 1971 Road Trips release, but the complete show would have been more than worthy. While I will always love the aud of this show, hearing the board of it is very satisfying indeed. One of the best shows from 1971 for sure. This is a must have show in both aud and SBD formats.
The 8/5/71 show also sounds great, but is missing two tracks from the master reel, Bird Song and Not Fade Away pt 1. The show is incomplete with the aud recording spliced in to complete the second set. Other than that...plus I love the lady who does the intro to the show.

Hey SD--we were going over this a few months ago, and I agree completely: the AUD and the SBD are absolutely necessary. The differences really help you appreciate the amazing performance this show represents. I think we have been lost in appreciating the fantastic AUD over the years, and in a way, didn't appreciate that a top grade, Triple AAA rated performance had to be behind it.

You can really appreciate the drumming on the SBD, something that doesn't come thru on the AUD.

This has to be the most important AUD/SBD for these comparisons of the early era, IMHO. I know that analysis isn't necessarily everyone's cup of tea, but I find it really interesting in comparing these...

We are indeed living in interesting times.. I can't believe how good these sound! I also noticed Charlie has been transferring the master tapes and remastering them in a mastering studio in L.A. according to the notes. His sources are coming from the master tapes with no cassette, reel-to-reel or DAT generations in the lineage.

I'm shocked...shocked and stunned. Weren't we just discussing that a few of these cuts were released on Road Trips, and wondering where was the rest? Holy Cow...

Right we were! Hey, maybe Mr Miller drops by, lurking every once in a while, sees what we need, and then decides to make it so, just for us...? Well, I can dream, right?

Yeah, it must have just been a week or two we were talking about it--wasn't that you and I that went back and forth scanning the RTs release to sort it out? Been so busy I forgot about it, but it wasn't that long ago.

Forum synergy strikes again!

Yup, that was we! Now they pulled the 8/6 SBD and I didn't even get to hear it. *crying like a fire in the sun* Luckily that AUD is the 'Gold Standard'... :)

I must have jinxed it when I wrote a review of it. This was the second time I have written a review only to have a show pulled after I praised it.
Funny they should pull it. Yes, it was released on Road Trips, but the few cuts they released were on the bonus disc that is no longer available. Bummer! Great show though and worth tracking down the SBD.

Correction:
I forgot that they also had released The Other One>MAMU>Other One, Deal, Sugar Magnolia, Morning Dew & Lovelight from the 8/6/71 show on DP's 35, "The Houseboat Tapes"

That happened to me with the awesome Stella from 10-21-78. I reviewed it, and when I went back to stream it...Road Trips strikes again.

Same thing happened to 10-20-74 after it's day in history.

all you little, well, men and women...well I would tell you something...but I really don't know what you are going to think about it...but I am going to tell you anyway...you need something...

what you need is 71-08-05!!!

I am suffering from hard-to-handle-itis so I am beginning with 08-05...I must say after backing off of 71 for a few months due to going overboard in listening, the bertha sounds A++++++...and you can tell jerry is smiling when singing: chooba chooba, wooly bully...

the last month of the five man band...these shows followed by the berzerkeley shows mid-month all rank high in my book...

anyway, I am sure I will get to 08-06 soon enough...just glad I am not suffering from 71-itis so I can listen to 08-05 now...

ENJOY!!!
